How to Use

Annotate Chinese text in three steps and get print-ready pinyin materials in seconds.

Quick start

  1. Enter text: paste or type Chinese text into the box — it can handle a full lesson, worksheet, or story.
  2. Annotate: click the "Annotate" button and the tool adds pinyin to every character.
  3. Export: click "Export Word" or "Export PDF" to save or print.

Correcting polyphonic characters

Chinese has many polyphonic characters — for example, 乐 is read "yuè" in 音乐 (music) but "lè" in 快乐 (happy). The tool uses context to choose the most likely reading. If a character is still wrong, the characters with a dashed underline are polyphonic — click one to manually choose the correct reading.

Simplified and traditional conversion

In the "Conversion" dropdown you can choose:

  • No conversion: keep the text as-is.
  • Simplified → Traditional: convert to traditional before annotating.
  • Traditional → Simplified: convert to simplified before annotating.

Formatting options

  • Show tones: toggle tone marks on or off.
  • Pinyin color: customize the pinyin color (red by default for better readability).
  • Pinyin size / Character size: adjust the pinyin and character sizes independently for easier reading.
  • Pinyin font: choose from several typefaces.

Export formats

  • Export HTML: generate a standalone web page that preserves the annotation.
  • Export Word: generate a .doc file you can open and edit in Microsoft Word.
  • Export PDF: open the browser print dialog and choose "Save as PDF".
  • Copy pinyin: copy plain pinyin text to your clipboard.
